The Bank Job – Review

Loosely based on the real life events of corruption of the highest levels in the UK, The Bank Job was a highly recommended movie from critics around the globe.

When Martine {Saffron Burrows } offers Terry {Jason Statham} a once in a lifetime opportunity to rob a bank, he soon discovers there’s more to the loot than expected. One safety deposit box contains the most incriminating photos in London, which everyone from the police, government and MI6 want as well.

The Truth : The Bank Job was mostly a sleeper with very little drama, excitement or surprises. Director Dick Clement tried to sex up, spice up and fuel up the film the best he could, but the film lacked an enormous amount of drama for my tastes.

You’ll read the reviews from Roeper claiming :

The Most Entertaining Heist Movie I’ve Seen In Years

Problem is, there wasn’t any action at all, how could it be exciting? Roeper is such a sellout, nothing could be further from the truth. Did he not see The Italian Job? The Departed? Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead? Those are wonderful examples of fantastic Heist movies, not The Bank Job.

The Seattle Times says :

One of the Best Movies Of The Year!

Bullcrap, I say. Never trust the mainstream critics, if nothing else. In a year that brought record setting blockbusters, how exactly does a 30 million dollar grossing film rank anywhere near the best? It doesn’t.

The Verdict : Jaston Statham is terrible in the film, he puts on a pout in every scene and speaks with an angry undertone to pertrude his role into the fathoms of overacting. Saffron Burrows is a very sexy leading lady, but she’s covered up head to toe in every scene so you’d never know. Cover up your leading lady? Yeah, more bumbling decisions from the filmmakers.

The Bank Job is barely a decent film, rent it if nothing else is in at the local video store. You aren’t missing anything if you miss this film.
