A psychological thriller about a man who is at times controlled by his murder-and-mayhem-loving alter ego.

The Truth :

Mr. Brooks is a Mystery/Thriller based on the premise that Mr. Earl Brooks is a serial killing, standup guy with a loving family. The film takes you more into the life and struggles of Brooks and the love/hate relationship he has with his alter ego {William Hurt}.

Demi Moore plays hard-ass cop, Det Tracy Atwood, who is hot on the trail of Brooks while struggling with aspects of her own life falling apart.

The Verdict :

I loved how the director didn’t make us care for either the lead detective, or Mr Brooks in the film. Had Demi Moore’s character been wiped out at any time in the film, you wouldn’t of cared, same goes for Costner’s Mr Brooks. I don’t need to feel an attachment to a serial killer, or the detective in charge as in Silence of the Lambs or every other movie they make about this topic.

The film moves along rather slowly though, and I found Moore’s character a little too over-the-top as the head bitch detective, who can kick some ass when she has to. The gun-battle in the apartment near the end was .. well … gay and pointless and in typical Demi Moore fashion. This isn’t G.I Jane, please stop portraying yourself as the toughest bitch on the planet in every role you do. Thanks in advance Demi.

Costner was wonderful as middle aged serial killer Kevin Costner, he pulled this role off really well. Dane Cook played the role of scumbag accomplice really decently, which was a shock. A bigger shock? Dane Cook didn’t wave his dink and naked body around the screen like he doesn in every fricken single movie he appears in. Please stop strutting around naked in your movies Dane Cook, we’ve seen quite enough of your body to last a lifetime.
Thanks in advance Dane.

Mr. Brooks was a rather decent Thriller, with enough twists and turns to keep my attention. Its no Silence Of The Lambs, but its better than most films of this niche. Check it out, I think you’ll enjoy it.
