The true story of Jasmine Plummer who, at the age of eleven, became the first female to play in Pop Warner football tournament in its 56-year history.

The Truth

The Longshots is a pretty moving, and entertaining story that never got the attention it deserved. Ice Cube is solid and convincing as Curtis Plummer and how his disbelief is turned into a winning formula.

The Action

Its not a football movie, to the degree of Leatherheads.. but its very entertaining and the action is well done.

The Laughs

There are plenty of laughs to be found when a girl cracks an all male lineup for a football team. The interaction of the players and Jasmine are both comical and dramatic at times.

What’s good about it?

There’s many important lessons to be learned in The Longshots, a film the entire family can enjoy.

What’s bad about it?

Nothing really sticks out, I enjoyed the film.

You’ll Like It If

If you like Rudy, you’ll probably enjoy this film. Its not as powerful, but the message is clear. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do. A message I personally drive into my kids daily.

Reminds me of

Rudy, G.I Jane (The message is the same), Friday Night Lights

The Verdict

The Longshots is a wonderful movie the entire family will enjoy. One of Ice Cube’s best performances to date in a drama.
