Dark Knight Review

Being the last charming man on the planet, to reveiw The Dark Knight, but I bet I’m one of the first to not join in on the parade and give this movie raving reviews!

The Scoop

Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent are forced to deal with the chaos unleashed by an anarchist mastermind known only as the Joker, as it drives each of them to their limits.

The Truth

The Dark Knight was entertaining, but probably over-hyped because of the death of Heath Ledger, and his signature performance as The Joker. Its a dark, at times disturbing, take on the Batman character that doesn’t leave a nice little feelingin your tummy when the movie is over.

Movies about superhero’s should have happy endings, shouldn’t they? Don’t they?

The Action

Fantastic action, explosions and destruction. I never cared for Batman’s motorbike, although they really try to build a lot of action around it. Must have been a marketing ploy to sell toys around the holidays.

The Laughs

Honestly, Joker makes quite a few good laughs. I also laughed whenever Batman spoke in his “tough guy” voice.

What’s good about it?

Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, the action.

What’s bad about it?

Too much of the movie takes place in the dark, at night.. the visuals suffer because of it. I thought they could have done without the final scene when Harvey Dent holds a gun to the head of Gordon’s son. We get it, Dent had turned into Two-Face, you don’t have to give us any more visuas on how bad he had turned.

Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes was really bad,

You’ll Like It If

If you loved Batman Begins, you’ll love The Dark Knight.

Reminds me of

Batman Begins, The Departed, Die Hard 3. Seriously, watch Die Hard 3 again, its a film about choices and a madman trying to destroy a man and a city. Very similar to The Dark Knight.

The Verdict

Batman started to bother me after a while, I grew to dislike him, just because he turned out to be a whiny little bitch, that never shut up. He reminded me of a spoiled rich kid I knew, growing up, that never knew how good he had it.

I didn’t care for the attempted shooting of Gordon’s son, with a gun being held to his head for minutes at a time. Like it or not, this is a movie that young kids flocked to.. and the producers have a responsibility. Showing such an unusual amount of attempted violence towards kids bothers me, because thats who this film is made for.

I never used to be a pussy like this, but now that I have kids I pay attention to these little things. I have no idea what age this film is appropriate for, I suppose 14 and up.

The Dark Knight was a good movie, but often slow and crude. Christian Bale mumbling his Batman voice was really bad, really irritating and made me chuckle every time he spoke while playing Batman.

The Joker stole the show, you know that by now. If anyone else had the role of the joker, the movie would have been average. The timely death of Ledger didn’t hurt the movie, lets be honest.

I hope in the next Batman movie (2011) they stop taking themselves so seriously. I mean, the film is starting to look like a Martin Scorsese film for crying out loud. I don’t want it to go back to the days of Nicholson and Keaton, but c’mon..lighten this friggen franchise up a tad.
