The Truth

You’ve probably heard of the movie Caligula if you are over the age of 30, but if you are like me you really never watched it. You may have seen some of the famous sex scenes, heard of them… but until you’ve really watched this movie you’ll never really get the full grasp of how good this film really is.

Deemed as a “porn” in the late 70′s, the truth is… Caligula is so timid compared to the typical movie these days, its almost comical. I remember looking at the movie cover in the old Beta Video rental store years ago, and everyone said it was a porno, so I couldn’t watch it. My how times have changed, Caligula is really mild.. our standards have really dropped in the last 20 years about what is acceptable and what isn’t.

You can kill hundreds in your movie, thats ok… rape..torture..murder..thats fine.. but have a couple filmed orgys and you get a bad name that lasts till this day.

Caligula is a very entertaining and moving story of Gaius Germanicus Caligula, and the struggles of maintaining an empire. Its incredibly well done, a must see film. Malcolm McDowell is awesome as Caligula, Peter O’Toole is wonderful as Tiberius.. two legendary performances you shouldn’t miss.

The Action

Caligula isn’t an action film, its more of a Drama. If you want Action, rent Gladiator, if you want a more detailed portrait of the life and times of ancient Rome, watch Caligula.

What’s good about it?

Sex, and lots of it. Although the film isn’t entirely about sex, I found it amazing how they could tie it all so seemlessly together in the film. BluRay! My copy of Caligula was HD, so it was an incredible experience to see this film in all its High Definition glory!

What’s bad about it?

Nothing!
