Milk Movie Review

Honestly, I went into the movie “Milk” with an open mind and without any prejudice. I sat down and cleared my mind, after all I didn’t mind Brokeback Mountain, I found it quite entertaining. I shouldn’t be comparing the two, I just wanted you to know that I have nothing against movies about gay men, gay women or gays in general. Go ahead and be gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

The Truth

After you get through the message that Harvey Milk was gay, and how could we not, the movie struggles along. After numerous scenes of Harvey Milk affirming his gayness, by kissing James Franco over and over again, we learn about Milk’s desire to run for politics.

Slowly, and I mean.. slowly, we are taken into the world of a gay society where they struggle to gain equality. Led by Milk, the gay society gets together with the help of non-gays to achieve this goal.

Cut to the tragic ending and we are left wondering : “Why did it take so long to tell such an unmoving story?”

The Action

Plenty of man on man action, not much else.

What’s good about it?

There’s a message here, and its real. Milk is a wonderful story, with a tragic ending. Take away from it what you will.

What’s bad about it?

I found the gay aspect of the film thrown down my throat a little too much. Yeah, we get it.. Milk was gay… stop proving it to us every 3 minutes please.

You’ll Like It If

If you are having problems sleeping, throw Milk in the DVD player and voila..problem solved.

Reminds me of

Every other movie that put me to sleep.

The Verdict

Rudy meets Brokeback Mountain.

Don’t hate me, or my movie reviews for going against popular opinion, but Milk was a really slow and boring movie that failed to strike an emotional cord in me. I found Penn’s acting a little rediculous, like my grammar, and am at a lost of words for all the acholades. Its a true story, so Penn isn’t recreating a new character, just bringing back one from the dead. Is that awardd worthy? Not sure, don’t really care either.
