Angelina Jolie performs wonderfully in this moving drama based on the real life story of Christine Collings. A mother’s prayer for her kidnapped son to return home is answered, though it doesn’t take long for her to suspect the boy who comes back is not hers.
The Truth
Angelina Jolie plays Christine Collins, a single mother who’s son goes missing, in this mystery/drama set around the mid 1930’s. In corrupt Los Angeles, however, her fight to find out the truth about the kidnapping, and how the LAPD solve the mystery, is quite shocking and maddening.
Polic return a boy who they claim is her son back to Christine {Jolie} a year later, and when she denies this child is her own, they will do anything to silence her from making any noise about their mistake. This includes sending Collins to a mental hospital until she takes the boy, the police deman is now hers, and stop making noise about the incident.
A young lad who is questioned by police for being in the United States illegally, begins to tell one honest detective a story about murder, missing children and the ranch he was captured on.
With the help of Rev. Gustav A. Briegleb {John Malkovich }, Collins tackles the system, the police and the haters in hopes of exposing the truth, and finally solving the case of her missing son.
The Action
The plot unravels rather slowly, but with great interest, almost as if you lose track of how long the film really does carry on. This isn’t an action movie, but the suspense is enought to keep you entertained.
What’s good about it?
Malkovich and Jolie are really impressive, the story is true and hits you harder when you remind yourself of this.
What’s bad about it?
20 kids were murdered, Corruption, 1930’s LAPD, Serial Killers
You’ll Like It If
You’ll like it, there is no “If”
The Verdict
Changeling was a fascinating, yet sad story that was one of the better movies I’ve seen in the last year.
