Earth Stood Still Review

Read our disappointing review of The Day The Earth Stood Still, and why this was one of the most disappointing remakes ever. A remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

The Truth

If you remake a classic, but add more glaring holes and ideas into a weak and dull plot, it still stinks. First, why would you round up all the scientists, and fly them into a doomsday scenario? Wouldn’t the government fly them out of harms way, considering they thought it was a meteorite?
Why would Jennifer Connelly’s character be in charge of such life changing situation, considering she was only a microbiologist?

Keanu Reeve’s was emotionless as always, he could have slept his way through the limited lines he had. The Day The Earth Stood Still was boring, dull and uneventful. The film rolls along slowly, barely getting to the point about 3/4 into the film. Of course Keanu changes his mind, decides to help mankind, and all because he just realizes we all love each other, and that alone is enough to warrant giving us a second chance somehow.

Jaden Smith gives one of the worst performances from a child actor since Haley Joel Osment shit the screen in Artificial Intelligence. Every scene Jaden is going for an Oscar clip, its ridiculous and boring.

Throw in Kathy Bates, in a role she looked embarrassed to be a part of, and this pretty much sums of The Day The Earth Stood Still.

The Action

There was more action in the drool falling out of my mouth, as I fell asleep watching the film three times.

The Laughs

You can bring people back from the dead, you can control electricity, but you can’t fly? Your alien race sucks.

What’s good about it?

I got all excited when I thought the big bad robot was going to do something interesting and fight. It was a short lived moment.

What’s bad about it?

No effects, Keanu Reeves, Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates, Aliens who can’t fly.

You’ll Like It If

I have no idea who would enjoy this film.

Reminds me of

Independence Day

The Verdict

20 minutes into the film, they realized this wasn’t a good idea to remake the film and just gave up on the entire project. The Day The Earth Stood Still … sucked, one of the worst movies of 2008.
