Surprise! 17 Again isn’t the disaster of a film I was expecting, infact, its quite good. Matthew Perry plays an unhappy guy whose life didn’t quite turn out how he wanted it to and wishes he could go back to high school and change it. He wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life.

The Truth

Zac Efron nails the part of a young Matthew Perry perfectly, and plays the role of time transplanted teen Mike O’Donnell really well. Whoa, this is coming from a guy who really isn’t a fan of Efron, so trust me when I say this review is making me swallow a little pride.

Yes, we’ve seen this premise before, the one where you go back in time and change things about your life because you have the chance to do so. It wasn’t long ago when Jennifer Garner turned 13 again, so why is this film different?

17 Again is funny. There, I said it. Efron was funny and the film is full of really decent gags meant for young adults of all ages. You get the same old dilemna that time travel brings, such as the encounter with a relative that could become awkward, so the film isn’t overly original.

The Laughs

17 Again has plently of laughs and comical situations, its a great date movie.

The ending is a little weak, but I won’t ruin that for you here.

The Verdict

Yes, I admit it, 17 Again is a funny movie and worth seeing. Take the wife, girlfriend, or boyfriend to it, 17 Again is a perfect date movie.
