The Truth

Crank : High Voltage (Our official coverage) is the continuation of the somewhat decent film Crank from 2006. Its the same whacky blend of action, crazy camera work and corny one-liners that made the first one a success. If you can buy into the fact Chev Chelios is living without a heart, and every other silly notion in the film, read on.

Amy Smart is back, and continues quite well with her role of a confused, sleezy yet still attractive Eve. Smart shows us more action this time around, even managing to throw 80’s sensation Corey Haim a beating.

Crank 2 gives us more of the same, but perhaps a little more silly this time around (if thats possible). Is that how the film was supposed to be? If so, then I guess High Voltage was exactly how the film was intended, and I just don’t ‘get’ this franchise or the fascination with Statham.

I can’t really get into the film more than this, because its just one really big chase and battle. I probably would have loved this film if I was 15, my definition of entertainment has changed over the years, I need a different emotion to be tickled not just my need for minldess action and explosions.

Amy Smart, fast cars, mindless violence, Amy Smart’s boobs, bikini badasses, Bai Ling

What’s bad about it?

Jason Statham’s chest, chest hair and acting. Shakey cameras, the entire premise of the film.

You’ll Like It If

Well, if you liked Crank, you’ll love this new entry to the franchise.

The Verdict

If you can buy into jumpstarting your heart with battery cables, a potty mouthed grandmother, and ridiculous action scenes and circumstances that defy every scientific property on the planet earth, Crank High Voltage is the film for you. I can’t, thats why I can’t recommend the film for anyone till it hits the video store. Its a rental.

What I learned

You can revive a lifeless body by placing their finger in a vehicle cigarette lighter. Nipples are excellent conductors of electricity.
