Here’s the secret involved in making an Adam Sandler movie, and rake in enormous amounts of cash at the box office. Pay attention, its really simple.
The Formula
Preperation for an Adam Sandler movie :
1. 80’s music soundtrack. { Priority number one }
2. Put Sandler in an awkward and unusual situation { check }
3. Sandler is homophobic { check }
5. Make Sandler see the other side of life { check }.
6. Sandler falls in love { check }.
7. Throw in really bad gay jokes and references.
8. Include David Spade, Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi in every movie
9. Happy ending.
The Truth
This movie and the laughs were unfunny and unoriginal. Is it always the same general character, Sandler has to play? The funny, ladies man who will punch your lights out, if you call him a name.
Thinking a little further about it, Sandler does play the same character in every movie. Happy Gilmour, Billy Madison, Big Daddy, Mr Deeds etc .. its never anything too original.
So we come to I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry. Sandler {Chuck} agrees to fake being gay, so his widowed best friend { Kevin James } can collect his benefits. But, hold on to your hats, Sandler is a ladies man, often seen with multiple women. Matter of fact, the opening scene presents us with two gorgeous ladies willing to fist fight for Sandler’s devoted love. Yeah, ugh.. not this again..
Along the way Sandler discovers life is awkward being gay, and he doesn’t care for the abuse. So, he starts defending the gay lifestyle, even punching out a protestor along the way. Yeah, I know.. another movie where Sandler punches out people..
He falls in love with Jissica Biel, who believes Sandler is gay. But, don’t worry, it all works out in the end.
The Verdict
You’ll watch the movie, you’ll think.. “hey it wasn’t that bad”. The next day you’ll tell people it was indeed pretty bad.. because you’ll realize you’ve been had by Adam Sandler, once again.
