X-Men Origins: Wolverine takes us into the past, into the history of Wolverine, his family… his conflicts and inner struggles, so we can get a better understanding of his life, his powers and his demons. Throw in a few infamous arch rivals along the way, a lot of fighting and explosions, and you know where this film is heading right away.
The Truth
Wolverine starts out strong, if not a tad slow. We are introduced to the life of Logan, and how old he actually is. Fans of the comic book know wolverine never ages, newer fans of the character now understand just how old he is.
Along the way we are introduced to a bunch of new characters we are supposed to care about : Deadpool, Sabretooth, Beak, Silver Fox, Gambit, The Blob.. yet oddly most of them are killed off before we have time to get attached to them.
That’s sort of the theme to this movie. We have to watch Logan/Wolverine struggle with his emotions and environment for 1.5 hours, as if we are being forced to give a crap. Truthfully, I don’t, nor will I ever. You see, I go to watch a movie about superhero’s to be entertained, not to discover they struggle through the same daily issues I go through. If I needed self affirmation, I’d hit therapy, not the movie theater and certainly not a movie about some prick who can heal himself and kick the shit out of anything he chooses.
The Action
Wolverine doesn’t lack action, although I found the film gave me a headache. Its like someone worked overtime on the fighting scenes and explosions, and sort of forgot about the special effects which leads me to my next issue :
The Effects
Surprisingly shitty, with nothing new to report here. Wolverine is the same, the fighting scenes are pretty much the same as the X-Men trilogy.
What’s good about it?
I think the filling in of the gaps about Logan/Wolverine is great, only if they are going to continue this franchise. I liked some of the characters, including Liev Schreiber { Victor Creed/Sabretooth }, who was probably more memorable than Hugh Jackman.
What’s bad about it?
There is nothing too original in this movie that warranted all the hype and expectations. The X-Men was a much better film, and probably told us more about Logan than this entire production.
You’ll Like It If
Most fans of the Wolverine character, or the X-Men will like it, but not love it.
The Verdict
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was decent, the effects were mediocre and I’ve never seen so many heads being punched senseless. I thought it was redundant to keep showing us people close to Logan getting killed, especially the old caring couple he stole the motorcycle from, and I didn’t care for the writers tying in the whole love triangle at the end.
Logan’s struggles were well documented in the X-Men movies, I thought this film could have dipped in a bit different direction instead of what we endured. Jackman is a good actor, I enjoyed how he has brought Wolverine to life and look forward to the next Wolverine movie.

Liev Schreiber in particular did an awesome job from all the way through; he brought some genuine acting prowess to the whole production
Liev Schreiber is starting to find his role. He was really good in this film and Defiance. I wasn’t a big fan of his before his last two films, he has really grown on me.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
