Mystic River Facts
1. While researching his character’s occupation, Kevin Bacon had worked in the office of the Massachusetts State Police.
2. Dennis Lehane, author of the novel “Mystic River”, can be seen waving from the back of a convertible in the parade sequence.
3. The film was shot in 39 days.
4. Eli Wallach appears uncredited as a liquor store owner. This is the first time he has worked on a film with Clint Eastwood since the two of them starred in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
5. Forest Whitaker was the original choice for Whitey Powers and almost accepted, but had to back out due to other conflicts.
6. In the final scene Kevin Bacon makes a gun with his hand, smiles and points at Sean Penn. In the final scene of “Death Wish”, Charles Bronson makes a gun with his hands and points it at some hoodlums and smiles. Clint Eastwood has neither denied or acknowledged this as a reference but many film lovers take it to be just that.)
7. A Few Good Men (1992) {Sean Devine, played by Kevin Bacon,} responds to the mention of Jimmy Markum as an accomplice of Just Ray Harris with the line “And the hits just keep on coming.” This exact line was uttered by Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men (1992), in which Bacon played Cruise’s friend and rival.
8. Clint Eastwood has directed 33 movies, this is his second most successful film at the box office, right behind Unforgiven.
9. Mystic River actually wond 43 Awards, not just 2 Oscars.
10. The writer of Mystic River {Dennis Lehane] wrote the story for another blockbuster mystery in 2007…. Gone Baby Gone.
